Is the child sick? Then bloody, and take iron! Many people think, though, that iron deficiency and drug iron deficiency can never happen on the basis of simple visual inspection.

We know more than one hundred elements that occur at varying frequencies in the Earth's upper strata. Oxygen, silicon, and aluminum, with 4.7 percent by weight of iron, are our fourth most common element and an important building block for any living organism.
After these, it may sound surprising that iron deficiency is one of the most common, usually nutritional, deficiencies. According to a 1982 survey, in Budapest, between the age of one and three children, about one-hundred percent were iron deficient and twice as poor in Borsod county. Although in developed countries good and rare are not good, iron consumed in diets can provide plenty of needs, and there is no need for iron ore. Infants in the western world are breastfeeding for only one to two months, although iron is utilized in breast milk at the best possible efficiency. Fortunately, the data is more favorable in Hungary. The problem is, though, that little kids worry about eating a lot of sugary sweets, chips, white bread and beans, and fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains rarely or only very little.

Iron can also occur in children

Consuming cows (or formula) more than one liter of milk before or one year of age, but more than a liter a day, also inhibits the absorption of adequate iron. Unfortunately, it is common for the family not to consume enough green vegetables, fruits, cereals and meat because they cannot pay for high-value, healthy, high-quality foods or foods.

Why do we need iron?

The major part of our body's iron stores is required for the formation and function of oxygen-depleting molecules, hemoglobin - that is, it is actually required for blood formation. A decrease in the number of blood cells also means a decrease in the number of oxygen-depleted molecules. Iron also plays an important role in muscle enzymatic function and is essential for the normal functioning of the brain and immune system.
It follows that its deficiency can cause a variety of symptoms: the most striking are the decline in mental capacity and fatigue - both of which can be caused by a lack of oxygen. They are characterized by increased infectivity, infertility, sensation of the tongue, cracking of the mouth, hair loss, paleness and fracture. Rapid heart rate and other circulatory symptoms are indicative of severe iron deficiency.
The condition referred to as an ailment in the common language is not the same as iron deficiency. The former term refers to a decrease in the number of oxygen-depleted blood cells and the latter refers to the lack of iron in our body. Naturally, the two are related to one another, but there are also situations where iron deficiency is present, but there is no (still) anemia. Conversely, anemia can occur without iron deficiency.

Causes of Vashiбny

We have already mentioned the role of the diet: if we do not consume sufficient, high-iron food, we will sooner or later have to contend. It should also be borne in mind that certain factors inhibit the effective absorption of iron, such as gastrointestinal disorders, acute infections, diarrhea, excessive milk, caffeine and black tea intake.
The disadvantage often stems from the fact that, for some reason, we have to count on increased iron. If the body is losing blood frequently or frequently, iron supplementation is usually required, and the same is true during the growth stages, during pregnancy and during breastfeeding. Early babies may have iron stores for up to two months, so your doctor will recommend iron supplementation.

Who Should Take Iron?

There are different standpoints about this request. For example, the American College of Pediatrics recommends screening examinations between nine and twelve months, and this may be warranted in Hungary for malnourished or unhealthy families.


Hemoglobin (blood dye) and hematocrit (blood component) values, together with data on the size distribution of blood cells, can be a good baseline. If these values ​​are lower than the normal values ​​(from six months to the age of gestation, and the normal hemoglobin is greater than 110 grams per liter at gestation), the cases may be 97-98
However, the difference in a laboratory result is still not significant. In fact, we can consider it as a pathology that also manifests itself in physiological processes. Of course, ask your doctor or doctor to notice the symptoms, as they may not appear at first. However, in the case of a perfectly healthy child or adult, ironing is not necessary even if the values ​​are sufficiently lower, as individual differences may be significant, and there is always one who is above average.
Interestingly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, the body's ability to utilize iron significantly improves with constant intake, as it is important to ensure the development of the baby and breastfeeding. Exclusive breastfeeding, along with iron from the inside, covers the baby's needs for up to six months, including iron.
If your doctor is thinking of iron deficiency on the basis of the blood image, further examinations may be required. Nutritional iron deficiency is generally well controlled by medication iron depletion. If treatment results do not improve or the patient's condition deteriorates dramatically (eg, falls, significant weight loss, or persistently low values), you may want to visit a hematology specialist because you may want to visit.

Like all hot flushes, overdosing on iron has a detrimental effect on the body, especially when it is administered in large quantities without purifying the cause of the anemia, such as taking a multivitamin with a sugary intake. In this way, it is deposited in the tissues in greater quantities than is necessary and impairs their functioning. There are situations when overdosing is difficult to avoid: patients with high blood loss in the event of an accident, death, or malignant disease require repeated bleeding of the patient.
Over time, red blood cells are destroyed, but excess iron is very difficult to remove, or only with the help of a drug.
It should also be borne in mind that an increase in consumption does not automatically increase the iron uptake. Delivered mechanisms, degradation and digestion, condition of the intestinal wall, possible congenital deficiency of enzymes, or various inflammatory processes play a role in recovery efficiency.

Almost every person with a need for iron may have a slight iron deficiency that can even protect them from infections.
Those who have high levels of iron in their blood have a high incidence of heart attacks, diabetes, and cancers. The body struggles better with mild iron deficiency than with too much iron. Healthy equilibrium moves within narrow boundaries. Recognizing all this, in Norway, they have stopped marketing certain iron and vitamin-fortified foods and are also conducting investigations in other Western European countries. Especially with cereal flakes made for children, it is common to iron them. If your child is eating well and is still receiving iron supplements containing iron, we are sure to overdo this important trace element. That is, less is sometimes more!

Pale and woody

Iron deficiency is the most common form of anemia. However, a mere visual inspection of the child is not enough to establish the condition - although paleness, frequent recurrent infections and a decrease in growth may be a sign of this. The major part of the body's iron stores is utilized to form oxygenated molecules (hemoglobin). From the gastrointestinal tract, iron is bound to transferrin by the blood, and excess iron, in the form of ferritin, is stored in the body, in the liver, and in the bone marrow. Determining iron deficiency is a medical task.
It is not enough to make a simple blood count, but you also need to make sure that iron stores are filled with transferrin and ferritin. Although our organization preserves and recycles its iron supplies, it may result in shortages due to one-sided nutrition and rapid growth. However, you should not take ironclad or iron-rich multivitamins in the same way, because without any reason, given iron can make you more susceptible to a variety of infections.
Patients, even in the lightest of cases, the need to stop artificial iron supplementation for healing! Iron from breast milk is utilized to the best of its ability, while excessive consumption of formula or cows increases the risk of iron deficiency.
Diets contain heme and non-heme iron. The former, which is found in flesh, is well absorbed. However, the absorption of non-heme iron depends on a number of factors, for example, because we consume food in a cured way.
Bran, fiber foods, calcium, tannic acid, oxalates (which occur in foods of some plant origin) inhibit the absorption of iron. Vitamin C and even a small amount of heme iron can promote the absorption of non-heme iron. The body's iron utilization ability also improves by itself in the case of accelerated growth and reduced iron stores. Deficiencies can be most effectively and most naturally overcome by breastfeeding and a balanced diet, as outlined below.

Is the iron warehouse full?

The iron content of our diet is relatively poorly utilized, only 5 to 10 percent of the protein is absorbed. Breast milk is exceptional, because its iron content is better (in fifty percent) than any other food.
Our body is able to utilize iron found in animal whites primarily with good efficiency. The vitamin C content of the citrus fruits that are consumed at the same time helps the cereals, legumes, milk, eggs, tea inhibit this process. If your doctor examines iron deficiency with the help of exams, you give the child a prescription. At the same time, he did not try to find out what is causing the child's deprivation.
As infectious diseases cause the body to increase the amount of iron stored and reduce the amount of free iron available, it is unfortunate that the screening test is performed immediately after the disease. The pallor itself does not indicate anemia.
